BBC: If you use air conditioning, we will turn off your electricity.

BBC: Summer temperature strain the grid.

Nearly 200 million Americans are under “dangerously hot conditions” alerts with temperatures expected to soar past 100F (38C) in several major cities.

Those major cities are places where it often gets above 100 F in the summer, so no real surprise.

PJM Interconnection, the company in charge of power supply in 13 states and Washington DC, warned that “extreme heat and/or humidity may cause capacity problems on the grid”.

“Temperatures are expected to go above 90F (32°C) across the footprint, which drives up the demand for electricity,” the company said in a statement.

Rather than give a $7500 rebate to rich people buying Teslas, banning gas stoves and portable generators and offering incentives to install wind and solar power, perhaps the federal government could try working for the benefit of the American people.   The federal government loves burning money.  How about spend enough to harden the electrical grid and build 30 new nuclear power plants.

If global warming and climate change are inevitable, wouldn’t it be great to have abundant and reliable electricity to provide air conditioning?

Buttigieg totally screws air travel for everyone.

USNews: DOT Changes Accessibility Rules

Pete Buttigieg and his Department of Transportation just made up new rules to make air travel more expensive and unpleasant for everyone.  How can federal bureaucrats do this with no oversight or accountability?

The new rule, authorized under the Air Carrier Access Act, requires airlines to make lavatories on any new single-aisle aircraft large enough to allow a passenger with a disability and an attendant to maneuver within the aircraft’s lavatory.

The rule specifies that the airplane bathroom has to be large enough for two 6′ 2″ men to maneuver a wheelchair.  On a Boeing 737, that means either in the back of the aircraft, reducing the total number of bathrooms available or a dozen passenger seats must be removed.  Fewer passengers means that each flight is more expensive and less efficient.

There doesn’t seem to be any limit on the size of the commercial aircraft.  Where does this bathroom fit in a CRJ-200 that holds 50 passengers?

People already have sex in airplane bathrooms.  In this large room, more people can join in.

Lay the groundwork for a future rule that would allow passengers to stay in their own wheelchairs when they fly.

Airlines currently have narrow wheelchairs to use when necessary.  This rule will require eliminating an entire column of seats.  A Boeing 737, with six seats across, will only have 5 seats, with no extra room for the people in the seats.  This wide aisle will be chaotic when people are departing the aircraft.

Sparky is a stealthy bastard.

I underestimated my sneaky puppy.  This morning, I posted about Sparky being a picky eater, but he’s way beyond that.  Before taking Sparky out for his evening walk, I saw this.

This was under the dining room table where I spent the morning sewing cushions for the camper.  Sparky and I went on a couple of small walks and played outside a couple of times.  That bag was not there until sometime in the evening.  I know where Sparky got the marshmallows, but I don’t know where he kept them all day.

Last night, I had some marshmallows after Sparky went to bed.  This is where they were this morning.

Sparky left his crate about 8 am and has breakfast around 10 am.  I usually start the day with coffee and browse the internet.  I did start sewing cushions after my coffee.  Somehow, Sparky found time to get up on the couch, nab the marshmallows and sneak them somewhere to eat a few before breakfast was served.  I don’t know how he managed it, but I have to be a impressed with his ability to pull off this caper.

Best Music Video Ever

Wild Thing is like the It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World of music videos.  You have to be of the era to understand just how amazing it is.  It can’t be explained to anyone younger.  I don’t know what would be comparable today.

The video starts with Rodney Dangerfield, Sam Kinison and and Jon Bon Jovi.  That’s a popular veteran comedian, a young and crazy comedian and a rock superstar.

The song combines elements of Sam Kinison’s stand-up routine with a classic rock song from The Troggs.  Everyone in the video is a superstar.  Joe Perry and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Steve Adler and Slah (Guns ‘n Roses), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Jon Bon Jovi, Alec John Such, and Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), Jonathan Cain and Deen Castronovo (Journey), Robbin Crossby and Warren DeMartini (Ratt), C.C. Deville (Poison), Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot) and Billy Idol.

The woman in the video is Jessica Hahn.  Everyone knew her as the harlot that brought down a celebrity preacher.  It was a huge scandal at the time.

Art like this doesn’t come along very often, and it can’t be imagined until it happens.  When it does happen, it’s a gift.

Friday is 9/10 for portraying black folks being funny.

After the refrigerator delivery, I thought Sparky might be racist, and this didn’t help

While I was log splitting, I was listening to Ice Cube on Joe Rogan’s podcast.  They were talking about the movie, Friday.  that Cube wrote and starred in.  I hadn’t seen it for a long time, so I’m watching it now.  I forgot how funny it is.  Every character seems like a real person who probably lived on his street when he was growing up.  They are exaggerated versions, and all those events wouldn’t have happened in a single day, but it’s all plausible, funny shit.

Ice Cube is Craig, a guy who got fired on his day off work.  His dad is a dog catcher.  In this scene, Craig’s dad is trying to get him to apply for a job as dog catcher.  Craig’s dad takes his frustration out on the dogs he catches.  His story is animal cruelty if you think about it, but it’s funny the way he tells it.  Sparky was watching the movie with me, and he felt threatened.

This movie is not a message movie or telling the way the neighborhood should be, but what it was.
