NIH is finally closing this down.

NIH closes experimentation labs accused of brutally killing thousands of beagles for 40+ years

Sparky has too much ninja blood to be an official beagle, but these reports are heartbreaking.  All of the lab beagles shown in the photos have Sparky’s stoic good nature, so you know that they are all good dogs.

Animal testing should not go away.  AI and computer simulations are only as good as our knowledge base.  Human lives are more important than animals, but why does it have to be beagles?

Use a different animal that isn’t super-cute with extraordinary empathy.

Use opossums.  I know that opossums are great hunter/scavengers that eat ticks and other bugs, but they look like zombie rats.  They would be bred for labs, not caught in the wild.  This gives them another opportunity to contribute.

Monkeys can be jerks.  They look like small, feral people so they should be even better test subjects.

Google explains why they use beagles.

Beagles are frequently used in animal testing primarily due to their docile and gentle nature, which makes them easier to handle and less likely to bite or resist procedures.

A beagle’s best qualities as a pet, make them desirable test subjects.  A beagle’s worst qualities as a pet, the tendency to wander off following a scent and the tendency to be judgemental when they get to know you, aren’t issues in a lab.

Beagles like to bark and howl, but in a lab setting, that would be addressed by performing a cordectomy on the dogs so they couldn’t vocalize.  Initially, it seemed like that may have been done to Sparky because he hadn’t said anything for the first month.  Apparently he didn’t feel like he needed to speak up until turkeys landed in the back yard.

It’s terrible.  What does this do to the veterinarians who perform the surgery?

PETA in 2021 highlighted Anthony Fauci’s alleged approval of funding for tests in Tunisia where beagle puppies were drugged, and their heads were locked in cages filled with hungry, infected sandflies.

Many of the beagle experiments funded by the NIH are diabolical.  As the director of the NIAID, Fauci may not have known what was being done or perhaps the experiments were that critical.  It’s possible that Fauci and the scientists involved got so jaded, that they lost their humanity.

I have previously posted about Laika, the first dog in space.  The day before Laika was launched into space and certain death, the Russian scientists took Laika to a park to play in the sun and grass.  That’s what a good human does.

If Fauci’s beagles needed to face a cruel fate, efforts should have been made to minimize suffering and give the dogs their best life until they were needed.  It doesn’t speak well of Dr. Fauci that this did not occur to him.

Lawmakers Celebrate with Beagle Rescued from Inhumane Testing Lab

Posted by Congressman Nancy Mace:

Last week, we welcomed Uno—the first of nearly 4,000 beagles rescued from one of Dr. Fauci’s testing facilities.
Huge thanks to White Coat Waste Project for your work to end federally funded experiments on animals and help them all!

Torturing animals is not only bad for them, but damages the souls of the people involved.  Saying it’s for science isn’t enough.

Experiments on animals will still be necessary, but should only be done when absolutely necessary and yields critical information.  Put the effort in to search for alternative methods.  When it can’t be avoided, treat the animal as well as possible.  Yes, that will cost some money, but perhaps that will constrain their use.
