Sparky looks a little rough, like he went to bed drunk and slept in his clothes. He’s fine.
Around dusk, Sparky and I went outside to take the air before dinner. I’ve seen bats flying around the yard, but not many. Tonight, there were a couple of bats flying in what seemed like a pattern. A bat flew over my head maybe a half-dozen times. Not attracted to me, but level flight about 30 feet up, over my head.
That got me wondering if a bat ever shit on anyone. It must happen, but do they do it intentionally, the way some birds do? Bats always seem like they’ve got too much to do, and can’t be bothered by anything that takes them away from their mission.
The bats were consistent enough that I took some photos. Out of 15 pictures, I got a bat in about half of them. You know how hard it is to take a photo of a bat? I don’t mean at Carlsbad Caverns, but in a regular backyard with a camera-phone.
Zooming in, that is actually two bats.
Weird, huh?
It seemed like Sparky was aware of the bats. He was looking up before I got my phone out. When Sparky sees a camera, he stops doing the interesting thing he was doing.
Bats commonly use frequencies around 30 to 60 kHz for echolocation. Dogs can hear ultrasonic sound, up to about 50 kHz.
I’m posting this to get it on the record in case I’m in an Alfred Hitchcock or M. Night Shyamalan movie.
Oh wait, if this is a movie, fucking Zendaya will be along soon to scowl at me.
