Sparky bit me.

Sparky is a an adorable pup.  I wasn’t going to post about this, but covering for him to preserve his image seemed dysfunctional and dishonest.

Sparky and Rusty have been getting along pretty well.  When I take them both on a walk, Sparky is not on a leash so he is up ahead, leading the way.  Occasionally, they are close enough to play doggie frolicking games.  If it seems to be getting intense, I pull Rusty back and send Sparky on.

I’ve been feeding them individually, with the other guy crated.  Last night, I fed Sparky first, and wanted to see if he could handle being out while I fed Rusty.  It didn’t go well.

Sparky stayed back when I let Rusty out.  When Rusty started eating, Sparky went in to join him.  Rusty didn’t want to share.  It went kinetic.  When they started the furious snapping at each other, I reached in to separate them.

Since Sparky was doing most of the biting, I blame him.  It wasn’t intentional.  I should not have reached in.  Both dogs have had all of their shots, so that’s not a concern.

There is a photo after the jump, so don’t click.

I’m fine.  I will monitor for infection, and hope my fingernail isn’t messed up.

After they were both crated, I showed Sparky what he did.  He seemed contrite.  Except for bathroom walks, they remained crated until morning.   Sparky accepted his fate, but Rusty was grumbling about being punished for being the victim.

Rusty had a good point.  Since he is always crated at night, I just threw a sheet over his box, and went to bed.
