The one that got away.

Beaker was a strong candidate for adoption.  He’s a beagle with a nice smile.  That’s my criteria.  When I contacted the orphanage, he had already been adopted.  Like Sparky, he was in and out in a day.

Getting a dog is like buying a house.  I have to check the listings every day, be ready to move, but not be so eager that I take the next one that looks pretty good.

When I got my dog Fritzo years back, I went to the animal shelter down the road from me in Medina. It was around October 2004. I walked in and filled out a card saying that I was interested in a German Shepherd no older than 1 year old. About a month and a half later I received a call from them. There was a lady who could not take care of her German Shepherd and was looking for a home for him. They put me in contact with her. He was 2 and 1/4 years old and his name was Petie. I changed his name to Fritzo. I put down for under 1 years old because I wanted to make sure he was trainable. I grabbed him any how, even though he was a little older than I planned. I paid the lady around 200 dollars. She paid 800 for him . At the time that was big money for a dog. Turns out he was AKC certified and the lady bought him not too far from were I lived. Peters Elite Shepherds. Breeding gentle German Shepherds. There still breeding and selling German Shepherds after all these years. She bought him in 2002. Who knows how long they were around before then. I picked up my cat Mee-choo at that same animal shelter.

There are animal rescues and dog pounds all over the place. Fortunately, most of them post on a common search site like Petfinder. Everyone getting rid of a dog may not know that, so dogs show up on Facebook or other places, but I can’t look everywhere.
