It’s got to be a good day when it starts with such adorableness.
Two years ago, when Sparky had been here for a few months, I wanted to see if he could handle being a free-range mutt. He seemed polite, and wanted to do the right thing. Since Sparky doesn’t want to do anything bad, he can do whatever he wants. It’s worked out, because he can surprise me like this.
Sparky has a crate in my bedroom for sleeping, a crate in the solarium for awaiting his breakfast and dinner, a dog bed in the living room to judge me for watching too much Youtube and a dog bed in the solarium to bask in the morning sun. Sparky has appropriated the area under the dining room table as his play fort and the area under my computer desk so he can fall asleep without me noticing. Sometime during the night, Sparky decided he needed to sleep on my laundry pile in the closet.
Sparky has only done that once before, when we had a thunderstorm in the middle of the night. It’s better that he comforted himself by sleeping in the closet, rather than sitting at attention in his bedroom crate, panting like Lizzo in front of a plate of chicken wings.
There may be something on Sparky’s mind or he is going through something. Sleeping in the closet was a solution to a problem that I’m unaware of. Sparky is a dog, but I think of him as a good-natured autistic guy who is sensing much more than I am, but can’t connect the dots.
Or, Sparky is judging me for not doing the laundry. He could be thinking, “If you run out of underwear again, you are going to face that difficult choice of going commando or wearing your bathing suit as underwear” or, “How do you spill so much food on your shirt? There are hungry beagles who want those wasted drips”.
I am not concerned. I’ll do the laundry or close the closet door. Sparky is not going to claim the floor in my closet. For some reason, Sparky sleeping in the closet on the regular, is crossing the line, like having a dog in my bed.
Come on , Rick, let him have the closet….it;’s like his own little room, the clothes are dirty already so he isn’t going to hurt them. Two of my cats love to hang out in my closet, it’s just a thing they like!
Sure, take Sparky’s side.
