Sparky has a good, rainy, day.

We know how to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Sparky is watching Bird-Mouse, and I am watching Serenity while Critical Drinker and MauLer provide commentary for the movie.

We could not be having a better day.

Sparky wants a slab of ribs to make it a perfect day.

Sparky is more Dopey.

Sparky heard Uncle Davy say he didn’t look dopey enough in his Sparky as Dopey dwarf post.

Sparky tried sticking his ears out and looking brain-dead.

Why did Cory Booker want to break the filibuster record?

Cory Booker’s 25-hour oration

Democratic U.S. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey made history on April 1, 2025, when he stood on the Senate floor and spoke for 25 hours and five minutes, delivering the longest floor speech in the history of the U.S. Senate.

Breaking the filibuster record is certainly a splendid accomplishment by Senator Booker.  What motivated him?

The EPA has a museum, and it’s about to be closed.

Lee Zeldin, E.P.A. Head, Shuts National Environmental Museum

On Monday, Lee Zeldin, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, said he had shuttered the museum, which was inside the agency’s headquarters on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington.

In a statement, Mr. Zeldin said the move would save taxpayers about $600,000 annually.

This museum appears to be a flagrant waste of public money.  Any politician who thinks the EPA museum should continue to operate, should have the opportunity to make the case.

Sparky won’t walk.

Sparky was never going to catch that squirrel, but I used that as an excuse to get him outside for a walk.  The walk went fine as long as Sparky was going downhill.  The weather was very comfortable, so I thought we could go for a long walk.  As Sparky was taking a whiz by the creek, I started up the big hill.  He wouldn’t budge.

Sparky could accept that we were on a walk instead of killing squirrels, but we didn’t have to make this a death march.  Sparky thought I should be grateful that he would walk back to the house without needing to be carried.

Sparky wants to catch that squirrel.

Watching that squirrel, Sparky thought it would be a good idea to go outside and catch the squirrel.

He was wide awake now.  Sparky wondered if the squirrel might try to escape up a tree.  He asked me to throw rocks at it or shoot it, so it fell out of the tree. Sparky was so adorable when he asked, I told him that I would.

Two retired guys watching a squirrel.

Sparky napped for so long, I started listening to an audio book.  When he asked what the book was about, I told him it was about a squirrel that wanted to be a dog, and the squirrel is right there, on that tree.

Sparky thought we should keep an eye on that squirrel.  At least that roused him from his lethargy.

April showers bring road rivers.

It hasn’t rained in eight hours, but there is still water running down Sprague Road.  Storm water is supposed to go down this grate, pass under my yard and continue to the creek in front of my house.  It’s a giant grate, but it’s completely plugged with small branches, leaves, and now a bunch of sand.  A neighbor stopped when I was looking at it.  He said that last night, the road was a river.

I’m going to try to pull the branches out, so the leaves and sand clear.

Sparky is taking the day off.

Sparky is exhausted.  Just before this photo was taken, he was sleeping with his eyes closed.  It’s noon, but Sparky doesn’t intend to move.

I am tempted to sit in the chair next to him, and put on my socks.  If I do that, Sparky will feel obliged to come over and ask to get on my lap.   He is so tired, I don’t know if he would do it.  I’m not going to try because he needs his sleep.
