Bill Maher, the comedian and host of Real Time, was invited to dinner with President Trump at the White House.
Maher is a Liberal who has been tough on Trump, frequently criticizing him. Trump has said dozens of bad things about Maher.
It speaks well of Trump that at his friend, Kid Rock’s request, he invited a harsh critic to dinner. It speaks well of Maher that he gave an honest account. If Maher and Trump can engage amiably, even on contentious topics, the rest of us should be able to do so as well.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants new regulations so that pedestrians don’t get hurt when they get hit by a car.
Imagine how difficult it will be to implement this rule without limiting the driver’s field-of-view or reducing the car’s efficiency.

Lunar Outpost unveils sleek new ‘Eagle’ moon rover (photos)
This sweet looking lunar rover was built by Lunar Outpost, and is one of three designs proposed for the Artemis 5 Moon mission set to launch by the end of the decade.
It’s not clear why the rover has no roof. Cosmic rays are a big hazard on the Moon. Polyethylene, a very common plastic, is the material recommended for cosmic ray shielding.
Donald Trump’s Energy Department Saved Your Appliances
With the internet and smart phones, we are living in the future. It’s fantastic. At the same time, many appliances and other mundane technology is getting worse. Regulations put in place by government bureaucrats make our lives worse.
President Clinton’s vice president, Al Gore, was directed to reduce federal regulations. Every president has tried to deregulate, but President Trump may get it done. Eventually, this will be a big deal.

New Therapy Offers Promising Solution to Childhood Peanut Allergies
Prior to our field trip to Cedar Point for Physics Day, one of my students who had a severe peanut allergy, came by to discuss medical precautions necessary for our day of fun.
He told me that food cooked in peanut oil, could send him to the hospital. Trace amounts of peanuts could kill him.

Disney Puts Tangled Live-Action Remake on Hold
After losing what will be hundreds of millions of dollars on the live-action remake of the movie, Snow White, Disney is holding off on the live-action remake of Tangled. A problem with Snow White, was the decision to make several changes to the movie late in the production. Re-shoots drove up the cost and made the plot less coherent.
Disney may be rethinking their approach to live-action remakes.
Sparky was intrigued by my account of cleaning out the clogged storm drain. He understood that he couldn’t help because it was too close to the road.
