She was even more surprised to see what actually landed in her neighbor’s wheat field: a boxy piece of scientific equipment about the size of a sport-utility vehicle, attached to a massive parachute, adorned with NASA stickers.

That campaign has spread awareness that fallen leaves provide overwintering habitat for many ecologically critical organisms. But that’s not all they do. Now, we can look at the consequences of leaf removal by the numbers, data that makes a more nuanced case for a gentler approach that supports plants and soil, and also offers insights into the most effective how-to practices to employ.

I don’t know where these eggheads live, but their houses don’t have the suburban green carpets that the rest of us envy.

Sparky won’t find my shoes.

Dogs fetch slippers in the cartoons, why won’t Sparky?

Sparky wants to go out in the morning.  I want to take him out, but don’t know where I left my Croks.  My house is modest, so it isn’t a long search, but if my Crocs aren’t in the first place I look, it’s tempting to abandon the search, and sit for coffee.

Sparky could go get them, but instead, he sits there judging me.

China Punishes ‘Excessively Pessimistic’ Social Media Users

The authorities have punished two bloggers who advocated for a life of less work and less pressure; an influencer who said that it made financial sense not to marry and have children; and a commentator known for bluntly observing that China still lags behind Western countries in terms of quality of life.

China doesn’t just censor, they punish. 

Free speech on social media is important, particularly hate speech, with two caveats. It’s better to know who the haters are, so it should not be anonymous. Also, it should be able to be blocked or filtered if you don’t want it.
