CNN:  Here are the 2026 Oscar nominees

The Academy Awards have evolved into a virtue signalling, Hollywood, circle jerk, but I always check the list in case there is a good movie I missed or to see if we agree.

Sinners was a good music/vampire movie, but is up for too many awards.  It’s a good monster movie, and should get Best Soundtrack.

Train Dreams was a good thoughtful movie, and could get Best Cinematography.

I liked Frankenstein, and that should get the Best Monster Movie That’s Been Re-made a Dozen Times.

I liked F1, and that could get Best Cinematography or Best Sports Movie.

The Ugly Stepsister seemed good, but wasn’t for me.  That could get Best Costume, Best Makeup or Best Body Horror.

KPop Demon Hunters should get Best Animated and Best Soundtrack for Children.

Surprisingly, of the movies up for an Oscar, I’ve liked the movies I’ve seen.  That might be a result of better movie reviews.  I don’t watch movies that don’t look good on paper.

For instance, One Battle After Another, just looks like an activist’s fantasy.  Any movie with a very pregnant belly showing, is already suspect.  A very pregnant woman firing a machine gun in combat had better be in a situation where it could not have been avoided.

I will consider watching some of the other movies on the list.
