30% of Americans Think At Least One of the Trump Assassination Attempts Were ‘Staged’
For the Butler, Pennsylvania, shooting — when a bullet grazed Trump’s ear and a local firefighter attending the rally was killed — 42 percent of Democrats called it staged, compared to seven percent of Republicans
Perhaps I am too naïve, but I have to think that it’s the meaning of ‘staged’ that gets 4 in 10 Democrats looking like lunatics.
The Yougov poll takes ‘staged’ to mean that President Trump’s team orchestrated the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Everything that happened that day was pre-arranged to garner sympathy for President Trump without killing him.
A person would need to be insane to believe that. There was a shooter, there was a rifle, one photographer happened to get a photo of a bullet in flight. A man was killed by the assassin’s bullet. Trump randomly moved his head, or he would have died. It isn’t possible to shoot that accurately at a distance of 140 yards.
Another way to interpret ‘staged’ was that there was a conspiracy to assassinate President Trump. People within the Secret Service structured security so that the assassin could take his shot. Other people may have recruited or encouraged the assassin to go to Butler to kill President Trump.
The security failure at Butler was so egregious, some aspects of a conspiracy are plausible. It may have only been poor management of the Secret Service, but it is awfully shady.
These polls always make me wish for follow up questions to clarify the results.
