You plant pears for your heirs.

That’s what they say.  Probably because it rhymes. 

What if the line was, “Plant pears for the bears”?  I planted them at the back of my property, so that would be somebody else’s problem.  

It could be, “Plant pears for your chairs.”  In Terry Pratchett’s  Discworld, sapient pearwood is used to build semi-sentient furniture. 

Doesn’t matter, this tree is loaded with pears this year.  This tree is a 16 year old Kieffer pear.

It’s time to pick the pears, so I need to figure out something to do with them.  Most of the pears are well-formed and unsullied by insects.

The apple trees didn’t pay off this year.  The Honeycrisp apple tree has a ton of apples, but they aren’t great.

Sparky doesn’t even like pears, but he agreed to sit for a photo if he didn’t have to get too close or pretend to eat a pear.
