I’m doing traffic stops today. If you haven’t seen this body-cam footage of a traffic stop, you need to see it.
The cop pulls a woman over for using her phone while driving. He saw her with a phone in her right hand. The twist is that she has no right hand.
The woman is witty and seems to have been waiting her whole life for this traffic stop. The cop is trying to stick to the script, but fixates on the missing limb and says, “hand to God” in an awkward, don’t-mention-the-missing-hand kind of way.
The woman knows that if she remains cooperative, she wins this. The cop is sticking to the script, no matter what. It’s futile, but kind of admirable.
The woman is so smooth, this doesn’t sound like her first rodeo. There may be some trickery involved. Perhaps she has an easily removable prosthetic device that was holding the phone. Since amputated limbs creep people out, she can count on few follow-up questions.
That would be fine. If the loss of a limb gets her a pass on intrusive regulations, I’m good with that.
