Friday nights used to be a big deal. Now, I’m watching King of the Hill and eating popcorn with Sparky.

Sparky isn’t eager to go out in the heat, but he likes to lounge in the sun. I modified the software for my robot window shades so that the center shade doesn’t go all the way down. I am so pleased that Sparky enjoys this feature.
Sparky won’t thank me for this because dogs don’t think that way. I’m not certain that when Sparky feels a tug on his collar, he understands that I pulled on the leash.
Having home automation and a dog is giving me more project ideas.

Sparky likes to chase rabbits into the brush. I like to see Sparky so excited. When we go in, Sparky gets on my lap to tell me about his hunt, and I catch a wicked case of poison ivy from the urushiol oil on his fur.

When I came in from mowing the lawn, Sparky was sitting in the snack pit. He’s still sitting in the snack pit, just staring off into space. He seems resigned or despondent.
I hope he didn’t poop in the house. Sparky wouldn’t want that to happen, but if it did, he’d own it. He’s not one of those dogs that sneaks in to take a dump in the bedroom closet, then denies everything.
Update: Sparky’s mood has improved. He was in a funk because he thought he’d found a meatball, but it was only a cherry tomato.
I went grocery shopping before cutting the lawn. While unpacking the bags, the cherry tomato container had popped open, spilling tomatoes on to the counter. Apparently one had fallen on the floor. Sparky is the kind of dog who is sneaky about food. He’d seen it fall, but kept his distance until I was gone. Imagine his disappointment.
I drizzled some turkey gravy on his dinner and that brightened his mood.

Sparky opened up about his hatred for the rising sun.
“The Japanese are inscrutable. They just sit there, looking dead, but when I try to sniff them, they flutter and buzz. That’s how they trick you.”

Sparky has been doing this lately. He stands facing the rising sun, with a grim look on his face. Something’s on his mind.

Sparky likes to wear his ears down to look playful and approachable. Today, he was wearing his ears slicked back for that streamlined European look.
