Sparks in the Schoolyard: What We Lost When Shop Class Disappeared

There are two ways to look at the approach my parents took to academics. 

“We trust your judgement” or, “so long as the school isn’t calling with problems, everything is fine.”

Either way, I could choose my own classes and graduation requirements weren’t as stringent.  I took every shop class that North Olmsted High School offered, and avoided academic classes.

Nobody cares that Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a peace accord.  Would you care more if you knew that the Tartars are from Azerbaijan, so that’s probably where tartar sauce was invented?  If you liked fish sticks you’d be interested.

Sparky doesn’t know about the robots.

Sparky isn’t eager to go out in the heat, but he likes to lounge in the sun.  I modified the software for my robot window shades so that the center shade doesn’t go all the way down.  I am so pleased that Sparky enjoys this feature.

Sparky won’t thank me for this because dogs don’t think that way.  I’m not certain that when Sparky feels a tug on his collar, he understands that I pulled on the leash.

Having home automation and a dog is giving me more project ideas.
