I was looking for new TV shows, and Ride or Die came up.  I do some research on IMDB before trying a new show.

Here’s the premise:

Debbie discovers that her friend of 20 years, Judith, is secretly an assassin.

That seems awfully unlikely.  If the premise is too outlandish, it’s difficult to suspend disbelief.

How would these two women get to become best friends in their 30’s?

Hannah Waddington is tall, posh, athletic and British.  Octavia Spencer is short, a bit common, dumpy and from Alabama.  What would bring the characters together and be the basis of their friendship if they met years after college?

In Ted Lasso, Hannah’s character became best friends with Juno Temple.  There was an age and class difference, but the relationship was very believable.

Octavia Spencer has played a variety of characters, but it’s hard to see her as the enthusiastic BFF.  Maybe she is the straight man in the comic duo.

Read some IMDB reviews.  Avoid the shills and haters.

The chemistry between the two leads is strong you believe their friendship.  7/10

That addresses my initial concern.

Such a pleasure to watch something with two strong female characters who didn’t portray women as silly, incompetent or who lacking confidence…needing to be saved anytime things got tough! 9/10

That’s a new concern.  I don’t know where the reviewer has been for the last dozen years, but all we get are strong female characters.  It’s such an unwelcome cliche, that Critical Drinker did a video about it.

Inconclusive.  I’m going to try three episode of Ride or Die, and see if it work.
