After the computers are shut down, the lights are turned off, and Sparky has gone out for his final wee, I like to put him to bed. Since Sparky is a free man with agency, I could just bid him good night and put myself to bed. He can take care of himself, but that feels ambiguous.
I sit with him and make sure he knows that I consider him to be a valuable member of the team.
Some religions hate dogs, some cultures view them as food, and even in Christendom, some people have dogs that are ugly or ill-mannered. Count your blessings, you know? We both lucked out.
Plus, Sparky sometimes has bad dreams. He is an introspective dog, so whatever happened today, he goes to bed knowing that we’re good.
The blue lights come on at 11:30 and stay on all night. That’s why the photo is tinted.
After a walk, Sparky would be happy to yuck it up and goof around, but it’s better to keep a calm and relaxed mood.
For the photo, Sparky went with a confident, almost boastful, posture. He may be auditioning to replace Russell Crowe in Master and Commander, or he may think he actually is the master and commander because he won the debate about sleeping on the couch.
