I’m about half-way through the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.  So far, I really like it.  The series is based on other books by George R. R. Martin, and is in The Game of Thrones universe, about a century before that series.

Although it takes place in the same world, this series is not as cruel and complex as The Game of Thrones.  Some places and family names are shared with GoT, but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms doesn’t require prior knowledge to enjoy.

Got was engaging, this series is fun.  Rather than focusing on nobility and the survival of kingdoms, this show is centered on a naive hedge knight and a kid who acts as his squire.  Both characters are likeable, and idealistically try to do what’s right.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is not goofy or silly, but has humor and is less intense.  It’s what you’d get if The Game of Thrones only cared about a few characters who weren’t nobility and had little chance of doing anything that would change the balance of power, say someone like Samwell Tarley before he got hooked up with Jon Snow.
