Motorsport: Donald Trump signs executive order confirming IndyCar race in Washington D.C.
Is President Trump the only guy with big ideas, or does he just get all of the coverage?
A popular sentiment amongst MAGA people is that Trump losing the 2020 election was a blessing because a term out of office gave him an opportunity to assemble better people and ideas. Less appreciated is the fact that America’s 250th anniversary lands in the middle of his term in office.
You don’t have to like President Trump to recognize that he loves America. Sure, it’s his idea of America, but I don’t recall any other president being as happy about being American. Trump was also extraordinarily honest about his agenda. Immigration, tariffs, and decisive military action were all well known.
Trump is having fun with America’s 250th anniversary.
Somebody must be keeping a list of Trump initiatives that nobody saw coming. Renaming the Gulf of America, the White House Ballroom and Greenland all seemed to come out of nowhere. This isn’t about whether they are good ideas or not, but they are audacious.
Adding a race to the Indy Car Series is one of those ideas. My first thought was that it should be in Detroit. When I checked the schedule, I see there is a race in Detroit. There are races almost everywhere.
Here’s the Indy Car schedule.

The East Coast is the only region with no races. There are no races in the US that are east of Lexington, Ohio. Markham, Ontario is only a bit farther east, lining up with Buffalo, New York. Having a race in Washington D.C., is good for the Indy Car Series because it opens up a whole region.
Preparing a course may be a challenge because the roads have to be in excellent condition, but the federal government will help with that.
Whatever people think of this idea, getting this arranged without anyone noticing, is an impressive accomplishment. The Indy Car Series has many stakeholders, and apparently everyone went along. Advertisers, sponsors, race teams and organizers had to buy in.
There is something to the idea that corporate media is preoccupied with the Trump administration. Other significant news gets scant coverage. Everybody is in their own bubble, so I could be wrong about that.
Many people are unaware that NASA is launching a manned mission to the Moon in a week. That hasn’t happened in over fifty years, and is a phase in a grand project to a Moon base.
To be fair, Artemis 2 does not include a Moon landing. When Artemis 3 launches, with a plan to land, people may become more aware.
