RCI: Are You Exercising Your Dog Enough?
I agree with him.
There aren’t any established guidelines for canine physical activity, but veterinarians generally recommend two 30 to 60 minute walks each day. Dogs’ exercise needs vary widely based on breed, however.
Add walking the dog to tasks people should do for an hour or two per day. Nobody’s got time for all that.
Sparky says,
“I like to run if I see a rabbit, but most of the time we spend outside, I’m smelling for something to piss on. And I snuffle around looking for food. I’d probably get fatter if we spent more time on walks.”
Yeah, what are you snuffling for? What do you hope to find in the grass?
“A baby bunny, or a raccoon tail. Maybe somebody left a chicken in the yard.”
Run your hands along your pooch’s side. Can you easily feel the ribs, or do you have to push hard to feel them? If you must push hard, your pet may need more exercise and less kibble.
So, Sparky is a little bit fat, but we like it that way.
