There is a lot going on in the world, but sometimes, you want to watch something good and dumb.
Mike Tyson’s Mysteries is easy to describe, but hard to explain why it’s so good.
The premise and plot is classic Scooby-Doo. Instead of Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, Velma and Scooby, the characters are Mike Tyson, Pigeon, Yung Hee and Marquess of Queensbury. Each episode has a mystery, but the team goes off track. It seems like Mike Tyson is just making this up as he goes, and it’s hilarious.
Like Scooby-Doo, it’s not explained how the team came to be like this. Over the four season, some of the background is explained. Mike Tyson is playing himself, and says such stupid shit, it was hard to believe that it was actually him voicing the character.
Norm MacDonald’s character is a lecherous, party guy who was turned into a talking pigeon. Somehow, Yung Hee is Tyson’s daughter. Marquess of Queensbury is a Victorian ghost played by Jim Rash. He’s the guy that always plays a gay wimp. He has played that role in Community, Ironheart and Abbott Elementary.
The show is just funny, without trying too hard in an Adult Swim kind of way. Not everyone will like it, but for what it is, I’d give it a 9/10. It’s currently showing on HBO Max.
