MLB reinstates Pete Rose after calls by Trump

Trump should not have been a part of the “looking for a new pope” story, but there is no problem with him having a hand in getting Pete Rose reinstated.

My interest in baseball is not so different from my interest in the Catholic Church.  Both were pushed on me when I was young, which left a bad impression.  Eventually, I came to like the idea of both, without any actual involvement.  Occasionally, people come up that are interesting.

I don’t follow MLB, but Cal Ripken impressed me with his fortitude.  Playing the most games in a row is a test of character.  Like Lou Gehrig, who’s record he broke. he seemed like a gracious and humble fella.

Pete Rose was another one.  He was called Charlie Hustle, because he could be ridiculously intense.  Professional athletes can be arrogant, degenerate and entitled.  Banning Pete Rose for life for betting on baseball, always that his team would win, seemed excessive.

Trump has commented several times in support of Pete Rose, and met with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred last month.  I don’t know how President Trump finds time to insert himself into major league baseball while he is negotiating peace between Ukraine/Russia, Israel/Hamas and India/Pakistan, reorganizes world trade, secures the border and reduces burdensome federal regulations, but I’m glad that he did.
