This is the vexatious project that took three times longer than it should have.

My bed platform has a tunnel down the center.  There is an IKEA chest of drawers under each side of the platform, and the bed is wider than both of them.  I did use that space for storage, but long things tend to be narrow, so there was a lot of wasted space.

The bedroom wall is 4 feet from the foot of the bed, so the drawer couldn’t be longer than that.  Fortunately, RV’s and campers tend to have long, narrow storage, so long drawer slides are available.  I went with 40 inch slides, so there is room to pull the drawers out completely if I need to go down that tunnel.

A pair of 40″ slides was only $50, so that seemed very reasonable.

I’d never done a drawer slide project, and this was awkward because it was being mounted inside a tunnel.  I built the two drawers and ordered the sliders.

As parts were being bolted together, there was a clearance problem.  I kept modifying the drawers until it was obvious that I needed to build new ones.

To bolt the slides on to the sides of the tunnel, I had to pull the drawers from the IKEA dressers, and slide the dressers out from under that platform.  It sucked and I had to do that six times as changes were made.

Wah-wah, everybody’s got problems.

The tunnel wasn’t built for drawers, so the tunnel walls weren’t sufficiently parallel.   I shimmed with fender washers, and it all worked out.

I’ve never had a good place to store Blu-ray discs.  I have a lot of them.  That’s one of the goals of this project.  A disc spindle is 3/4″ bigger than a disc.  In quantity, that adds up.

My big idea was to store the discs in the spindle cover, rather than on a spindle.  That provides three disc stacks wide, and nine stacks deep.

Each cover holds a hundred discs, so one drawer can hold 2700 Blu-ray discs.

Shut up,  You collect a bunch of superfluous crap.  The difference is that I’ve got a dedicated spot for my compulsive hoarding.

Some of the discs do contain important backup data.  I should develop an off-site storage solution.

I can’t help thinking that if my house burns down, I will have much bigger issues to address.  That data may not seem important anymore.

The project is done, and I like it.

The top drawer holds discs.  The lower drawer will probably be for luggage I use frequently, like my carry-on bag, computer bag, and CPAP bag.  Gun cases go on the floor.

I am really getting my shit together.
