It’s embarrassing to be watching a reality show.  I watched the first season of Road Rules.  That was the last, and maybe only, reality show that I followed for a whole season.  That was thirty years ago.

I’ve got a big project to do today, but I’m watching Celebrity Traitors.

I was reading a Guardian article defending the BBC’s fraudulent documentary that tried to undermine Trump’s candidacy.  The article insisted that the BBC is important because it produced this popular reality show, Celebrity Traitors.  I looked into that show, and recognized several participants.

The UK is very good at producing mean-host competition shows.  The “you are the weakest link” style shows.  Simon Cowell comes to mind.  The UK has a few dozen B-list celebrities that seem to circulate amongst those shows.  Watch British quiz shows, and the same people show up. 

Celebrities like Simon Pegg, Judy Dench or Russel Brand don’t appear on these shows because they have international notoriety.

I don’t know enough about reality shows to know the name for this type.  Celebrity Traitors starts with 19 participants.  Three are traitors, while the rest are faithful.  Participants are removed by being ‘murdered’ by the traitors, or by being wrongly identified as a traitor.

Of the participants, Stephen Fry and Charlotte Church are the only two that are recognizable without watching UK TV shows.  Four others I know from the UK show, Taskmaster.  The rest are unknown to me.  The unknowns include a Scottish Sean Connery knock-off, a personable rugby player, a squeaky goth girl and a flamboyant Truman Capote gay guy.

Celebrity Traitors is a well-financed show.  That’s clear because there is only one social media personality and it takes place at Andross Castle in Scotland.

It’s a great site for this type of show. 

The challenges they are given aren’t great or very clear.  The show plays on the ‘murder’ theme by making everything macabre.  It’s kind of dumb.  Celebrity Traitors is about a 7/10, but I will probably end up watching the whole thing.
