Coffee should be easier than this.

I was about to buy my sixth Keurig, when I wised up.  The ‘descale’ light means the coffee maker is getting ready to shit the bed.

When a Keurig gets clogged, before or after a descale, the machine shuts down, and can’t be powered up ever again.  Whatever is getting clogged should be a user-serviceable part.  For safety, a fuse or thermal sensor cuts the power, and can’t be reset.  The Keurig is bricked.

A Keurig is not cheap for what it does.  There is a tiny hot water heater, and a pump to drip a measured amount of water.  The Keurig that just went tits-up, cost $80 and didn’t last a year.  The cheapest comparable knock-off costs $20, and can hardly be less durable.

I’m not ready to buy a disposable junk machine.  Keurig owns the single-serving coffee machine market with 75% market share.  They may be too big to care.  I bought a Ninja, hoping that they compete with quality.

It also has a foldaway frother.  That could be a game changer.

Whipped heavy cream on fruit, is fantastic.  I have that often, but have been using a battery-powered frother like this.

These rotate very fast if they aren’t mixing anything, but bog down in use.  It only cost nine bucks, so about what you’d expect.  I tried an immersion blender, but it’s too powerful for 5 ounces of cream.

I’m eager for the Ninja.
