There always seems to be a construction project going on around here.

A couple of days ago, Sparky wanted to go out to talk to the construction guys to find out what they smelled like.   That seemed like a good idea.  I had some questions.

They are replacing the residential gas line.  Phase 1 is replacing the main line, while excavating a pit at each house where the house supply line ties in.

The one-lane construction zone in front of my house is about a quarter-mile long.  There is a guy with a ‘stop’ and ‘slow’ sign at each end, but I can’t see it.  When I want to go somewhere, I wait at the end of the driveway until I see a car to indicate which way traffic is flowing.

It’s fine.  When Sparky and I did our goodwill visit with the workers, they said by that by Christmas, they should be passed my house and on to the other side of the bridge.

Phase 2 is tying house gas lines to the main line.  When that happens, the house won’t have natural gas for a day or so.  With the wood stove and a microwave, it won’t be an issue.

Phase 2 is underway at the end of the street and comes with a construction zone that is about a 100 yards long.  That means there is only a couple of hundred yards where cars can pass each other.

The whole thing is a little irritating, but I don’t leave the house very often.  I am excited about having a new, modern gas line.
