If this turns out to be a horror movie series for Halloween, here is the second movie.

The movie title, Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl,  explains the plot.  Since this is a Japanese movie from 2009, the fun comes from watching their take on American style and culture.  This might be a parody, I can’t tell.   The version I watched was in English, and dubbed very well.

Like many Japanese movies, the action takes place in a high school and centers on the tall, reserved and handsome guy that everybody wants.  The movie starts by establishing the student factions and the major players.

The leader of the loli-goths wants to date this cool guy.

The quiet, nerdy girls are all in the Wrist Cut Club.  They aren’t suicidal, they just cut themselves for some reason.

Call this the Ubangi Club.  These are Japanese students who admire the physical attributes of Africans.  They cosplay and emulate Africans and African-Americans.

The loli-goth leader’s dad is this wimpy science teacher.

The sexy school nurse also likes the cool guy.

The wimpy science teacher is related to Dr. Frankenstein, so has a mad scientist alter ego.  He and Sexy Nurse prey on students for crazy experiments.  That’s the Frankenstein team.

A new girl at the school is a vampire, and she also desires the cool guy.  That puts her in conflict with the loli-goths.

Vampire Girl has a maintenance man named Igor, who is her thrall.  He burns up the bodies of students that she preys on.  That’s the vampire team.

Vampire Girl has made Cool Guy a half-vampire.  If he completes the ritual, he will be a full vampire.  He isn’t sure if he wants to do that.

Everybody figures out pretty quickly that the new girl is a vampire.  Sexy Nurse and the wimpy science teacher take the best parts of every group to make a Frankenstein girl to fight Vampire Girl.  Wimpy science teacher takes the strong arms of a wrist cut girl, strong legs of a Ubangi, and the pretty head of a loli-goth to build his creature.

The last third of the movie is the Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl war.

Vampire Girl can use blood magic to turn blood into swords, wheels, ropes, or whatever she needs.  Frankenstein Girl can use body magic to screw a body part to herself to get a fully functioning appendage.  Before their final battle, their helpers fight.

Sexy Nurse has eye ball hands screwed to her tits while Igor turns into a bone samurai.

It’s impressive.

The final battle takes place on a replica Eiffel Tower.  I don’t know if every Japanese high school has one, but it’s really nice.

Frankenstein Girl has a Makita cordless drill and a bunch of wood screws so she can attach any body part she finds to get new abilities.  Those two legs screwed to her skull spin like helicopter rotors and allow her to fly.  The arm and leg attached to some angle iron let her slash and kick from a distance.

Vampire Girl uses her blood as swords, and later, as a tether in the Spider Man way.

Who are we supposed to root for?

Obviously true love.  Cool Guy chooses Vampire Girl, and fully converts.  As they walk off, he knows they will be together forever.  There is a catch, but Cool Guy and Vampire Girl are happy for now.

I liked it.  Campy or stupid, it was fun.  The soundtrack has Japanese bubblegum rock where the girls sing nonsense English words mixed in with Japanese lyrics.  Much wasn’t explained about how their world worked, but individual motivations were clear enough.  I’d give it an 8 out of 10.
