The Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon is when you learn something new, then started noticing it everywhere.

I wasn’t aware that Science Fiction Erotica was a sub-genre of literature until I’d watched Shoe0nHead’s latest Youtube video.  I started noticing the topic showing up on news and current event sites.

Start with the premise that men appreciate visual stimulus while women prefer emotional stimulus.  I haven’t seem research on this, but it would be boring anyway.  It is the old wisdom.

It comes up pretty often.  The MCU used to know this old wisdom.  Iron Man 2 had a relationship between Tony and Pepper for the gals, and winsome Natasha for the guys.  Everybody is happy.

It doesn’t work the other way.  To their detriment, Hollywood went through a “male gaze bad” phase.  Is there a phrase for the appetites of women?  Possibly sappy love story, or something like that.

In written media, women have always had “bodice rippers” novels.  Not great literature, but at least Fabio was on the cover.  Men had comic books or graphic novels with well-proportioned superheroes.

For some reason, the male preference gets stigmatized.  Male gaze bad, sappy love story is fine.

There used to be soft-core versions of both.  Playboy and romance novels, with saucy photos or stories.  Fifty Shades of Grey started as Twilight fan fiction, but with the supernatural element removed, was rewritten as lady porn.

Fine, do porn if you want, but the weird thing is the lack of shame exhibited by women.  That appetite has grown, and the public conversation of porn remains.

The video from Shoe0nHead talks about the new popular novel, Morning Glory Milking Farm describes how bizarre this phenomenon is.  This book is #406 on the Amazon Kindle list, and #1 in Science Fiction Erotica, Erotic Science Fiction and Fantasy Erotica.  Women have no shame.

Men would be ashamed to talk about an affinity for animated bestiality.  That is the closest analogy that comes to mind.  The Japanese probably have a word to describe that flavor of Hentai.  (I’m not going to google it.)

Why are men and women so different in their interest in advertising their deviancy?  It’s like some women don’t know the difference between private and public.

Obviously this is a generalization, and there are weird individuals of all types on the margins.
