Hamas says it has agreed to parts of the Gaza peace proposal outlined by President Trump

If this Gaza peace proposal sticks, President Trump should get the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel Peace Prize Committee would hate to award the prize to Trump, but it’s getting more difficult to deny he is the most peace-making president ever.  His record is impressive.

India and Pakistan:  Pakistan gives Trump full credit, but India disputes that.  India does cozy up to China and Russia.  This conflict was looking dangerous before Trump got involved.

Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo:  Trump brokered that ceasefire, but it may not hold.

Cambodia and Thailand:  Trump, along with China, brokered the ceasefire, but it may not hold.

Armenia and Azerbaijan:  This conflict was going on for many decades when Trump achieved a peace deal.  Watching the signing on Youtube was touching.  He gets full credit for this one.

Israel-Iran:  It did take a bunch of bunker-buster bombs to get to an agreement, but Trump got them there.

Trump’s administration has also gone in to resolve conflicts that could have escalated  between Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia.

Some of these conflicts don’t appear to involve US interests, but Trump’s people saw that they might be able to help.  It’s hard to believe that anyone outside the region cares that Armenia and Azerbaijan have been killing each other since the USSR broke up.  Both presidents recognized that and appreciated the intervention.

When President Trump addressed the United Nations, he pointed out his successes were a result of the UN’s failures.  He’s right about that.  Trump could have stayed out of most of those conflicts.

Candidate Trump thought the Ukraine/Russia war would be easy to resolve.  He admits that he was wrong about that as he continues to lead EU in supporting Ukraine.  The Nobel Prize Committee may be waiting for this war to end to avoid having to award the Peace Prize to Trump in two successive years.

That would be awkward.

It would be a magnanimous gesture if former President Obama gave his Nobel Peace Prize to President Trump.  Obama was nominated for the Nobel Prize two weeks in to his first term in office.  He was awarded the prize without having done anything noteworthy.  Obama was given the prize because he was on a “higher moral plane” or something along that line.  Obama has to cringe at the whole thing.

If Obama handed his prize to Trump now, it would redeem Obama’s image as a man of substance.  If Trump can resolve the Ukraine/Russia war, the Nobel people could redeem their image as a body truly interested in world peace.
