The Army parade in Washington D.C., was not a great idea.
It’s worth celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary, but a parade in D.C., is not going to be appreciated by the rest of us watching on Youtube.
Years ago, there was Marine Week in downtown Cleveland. They had a bunch of equipment, and the Marines who worked with that equipment. People could talk to the Marines and handle the equipment. It was very engaging and informative. The Army should have come up with a program that could travel to major cities. Make it cool.
I’ve got a few ideas.
- Set up an Army obstacle course, and stage a competition amongst high school teams
- Army sniper demonstration.
- Set up a paintball course, and have Green Berets be the coaches for competing civilian teams.
- Have a popup restaurant serving MRE’s.
- Have drill instructors yelling at people doing calisthenics.
People like interactive experiences and would like to see what our soldiers can do. Make it impressive.
