The yard was finally dry enough to get some work done outside.  I asked Sparky if he wanted to help, but he said that today was a holiday for his people.  He had the day off.

Okay, let I’ll bite.  Why is today a holiday and who are your people?

“May 7th is National Beaufort Scale Day.”

[shrug]

“The Beaufort Scale!  You know, for wind speed.”

You’re not a wind speed.  Why do you get the day off?

“It was first used on the Royal Navy ship, the HMS Beagle.  How do you not remember this?  It was in that book, The Voyage of the Beagle, you were telling me about, by that Darwin fella.”

Beagles get a day off because a ship is named after you?

“Sure.  It was a pretty good ship.  And a book.”

Sparky must have had a relaxing day, because when I was done for the day, he was eager to screw around outside.  He wanted to scratch around in the dirt.  No, he didn’t dig out that pond.  I have been removing an asphalt pad in the back yard.

I wasn’t sure what he was after, but Sparky was really into his excavation project.  I shot some video.

After what Sparky did next, it all made sense.

He dug that hole, so he could poop in it.  Sparky has probably been thinking about this all day.
