Because ASMR is videos of people eating and a bunch other dumb stuff.
Gen Z try to sound literate by making up terms that sound more scientific that the existing words.
Here is the whole thing from Psychology Today.
The term ASMR was coined by Jennifer Allen, a nonscientist looking to create an official sounding name for a sensory phenomenon. The letters stand for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and it “describes the experience of tingling sensations in the crown of the head, in response to a range of audio-visual triggers such as whispering, tapping, and hand movements”.
ASMR is an invented term for things that creep you out, or make your skin crawl.
In practice, ASMR applies to videos that don’t tell any kind of story or have a narrative.
ASMR videos may be:
- crinkling paper
- whispering
- rain
- eating sloppy food
- nails on a chalkboard
- cleaning out ear wax
- raking sand
It seems like it can be anything, as long as it’s stupid or mundane and the person concentrates as they do something easy. To be safe, don’t talk.
If I had any ambition, I’d strap a microphone to my belly to capture digestive sounds, then use an AI to animate an Asian girl rubbing her belly as she softly giggles.
People in creative professions are worried that AI is going to start generating content. Based on the dopey girl with big lips who has 9 millions views of her video dripping honey, maybe AI should take over.
