Major Problem in Physics Could Be Fixed if The Whole Universe Was Spinning
Earth rotates, the Sun rotates, the Milky Way rotates – and a new model suggests the entire Universe could be rotating. If confirmed, it could ease a significant tension in cosmology.
This could be a really big deal if it pans out. Nothing would change in anyone’s life, but it could explain phenomena that we can’t explain now.
The universe has been expanding since the Big Bang. Because of gravity, the expansion should be slowing down. Since we have built better telescopes, cosmologists have found that the expansion is speeding up. There are no forces in physics to explain how that’s possible.
As an analogy, imagine that sounds get louder, the farther you are from the source of the sound. There should be some reasonable explanation to account for that, but none can be found.
Rather than call it, “that acceleration universe problem we can’t explain”, physicists make up a theory and try to prove or disprove it. That’s why they made up dark energy and dark matter. Those are placeholder terms for that thing we can’t explain.
If the universe is spinning, then inertia and centripetal acceleration could account for the universe expanding faster than it should. That photo at the top is a lab we did to investigate inertia and centripetal acceleration.
The article mentions that the Earth, Sun and solar system spin. At one time, it was thought that electrons also spin. Now, electrons have a ‘spin’ property. Electrons have no boundaries or structure, and don’t actually spin like a bike tire. The universe could be like that.
It will be interesting to see if this concept holds up.
