Youtube movie reviewers hated A Minecraft Movie, but it’s making bank in the theaters, so it was worth a try.
It’s a turn-off-your-brain movie, but there are some funny lines and nothing is too irritating.
The writers didn’t put too much thought into this movie, so the audience shouldn’t either. The right people were cast, then it seems like the actors played familiar characters. Jack Black plays himself, Jason Momoa plays a silly version of himself, and Jennifer Coolidge plays a divorced woman passed her prime. Danielle Brooks plays the same character she played in Peacemaker. She is an “Oh, hell no!” black woman who is competent, but doesn’t like surprises.
The two kids in the movie are forgettable and unremarkable.
A Minecraft Movie isn’t good. There is a plot, but it doesn’t help the movie. The Minecraft world is shown, but is missing most of the creativity and cleverness of the game. The movie could be much better, but after 10 days, it’s passed a half-billion dollars in ticket sales. It’s good enough for kids to enjoy.
