When you’ve got a shit-load of steak left over from a social event, you eat steak for a few days.  Eventually, it’s time for some variety.

Mrs. Grass Hearty mix is something I’ve had in the pantry for who knows how long, but that’s the idea.  It’s sealed in a mylar pouch, so it’s part of my Y2K kit.  It’s from Wyler’s, and they don’t even make good Kool-Aid, so it probably wouldn’t look like the picture on the pouch.

A left-over cup of cooked rice was thrown in, and a tablespoon or two of “Better Than Bouillon Premium Roasted Beef Base” from Costco.

A pound or so of steak was diced up, and thrown in a few minutes before the soup was done simmering.

Enough extra stuff was thrown in, the Hearty Mix wasn’t doing much work, but it was an experiment.  It is tasty and hearty.  Not as tasty as good homemade beef stew, but better than Dinty Moore.

I’ve got to get to the grocery store.  I am out of fresh everything.  Sparky isn’t even getting his hard-boiled eggs.
