Out of the 27 superheroes in Avengers: Doomsday, these are the five female characters. Something has gone wrong with the women.
This is what superhero women used to look like.
Superheroes used to be attractive women in fetching costumes.
Now, three of them are dressed to comply with Sharia Law, one is ugly and one is covered in blue paint and dried oatmeal. They don’t have to go all Tits McGee, like we had in the 1970’s, but would it kill them to give guys something to look at?
Don’t give me any of that “male gaze” blah-blah crap. There is plenty of fan service for women, with numerous scenes featuring musclebound shirtless guys. In this scene from Thor: Love and Thunder, they get a bare-assed Chris Hemsworth.
The actresses chosen for Avengers: Doomsday are not stunningly beautiful. Three are mid, Rebecca Romijn is an attractive 53 year-old and Letitia Wright is not a handsome woman. Nobody is hitting that.
It’s not just the MCU, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is just as bad. When they pick a good-looking actress, they actively conceal her charms.
Sydney Sweeney looks like this.
In Madame Web, she looks like this.
Three attractive women, all dressed like they are going to visit a judgemental grandmother. Madame Web lost $100 million.
Intentionally making women in superhero roles less appealing is a symptom of Hollywood’s aversion to giving guys what they want. When critics discuss the flaws of superhero movies or TV shows, they are dismissed as being racist, sexist, bigots, or some other epithet. Some TV shows, like She-Hulk, are proud of disappointing fans. It’s intentional.
Fine, their choice. Hollywood will either change or go under. We have plenty of other options to keep ourselves entertained.
