With family in town, we had a cook-out at my house. We get reacquainted as the young ones form new bonds. Looking at it like that, a little girl crying in the rain is an opportunity. It certainly doesn’t mark the end of the party.
Most people don’t even notice. The parents notice, but don’t negotiate with terrorists. The drama will pass. As the good will ambassador, Sparky has his hands full making everyone feel like he wished they’d visit more often. I’m busy pretending like I’m not in charge of anything. Sparky and I aren’t going to get involved.
The little girl’s cousin will take care of it.
What does the cousin say to comfort the little girl? I know what I’d say.
“If you just want to get away from everyone for a bit, you can crawl into the cabinet below the grill. That would be drier, and I’m sure you would fit. Your parents won’t be able to watch you suffer, but when you come out of the cabinet covered in hamburger grease and spiders, they will be sorry they were so mean to you.”
Later on, a medium-sized girl and her brother played VR games.

Eventually everyone went home, and Sparky took a nap for the rest of the day. He had been super-charming for many hours, so he deserved the rest.

Rick, thanks for hosting You and Sparky did a good job, Sparky was great at monitoring kids burger droppings!
