Designer Behind President Zelensky’s White House Outfit Defends the Choice
Clothing is a choice, and people should be judged by what they wear. By dressing like this for a meeting with Trump, Zelensky has questionable judgement or questionable objectives.
The meeting is at the White House. That is as prestigious as it gets. The White House has been the setting for 85 movies. Trump is older, taller and more experienced. A couple of days ago, Trump slapped down the governor of Maine at a celebratory dinner. He isn’t reluctant to dish it out.
Zelensky did a terrible job defending his outfit.
“I will wear costume after this war will finish. Maybe something like yours. Maybe something better, I don’t know. Maybe something cheaper.”
A costume? Good idea making fun of business suits to a man who has worn a business suit his entire life.
Something better? Trump is worth $7 billion and his brand is overstated opulence. His new best buddy is the richest man in the world.
Zelensky’s explanation was incoherent, so the designer of his clothing tried.
Estimating that 99 percent of Zelensky’s wardrobe is comprised of her designs, Gasanova added that Zelensky has not worn a suit since the Russian invasion three years ago, as a sign of solidarity and respect to Ukrainian solders. “It is a symbol of the unbreakable spirit of a nation standing up for its freedom,” she said.
Not wearing a suit is not a sign of solidarity. That would be like me declaring I wouldn’t go to the gym to workout as long as Biden was president.
George W. Bush gave up golf during the Iraq war. He explained it in an interview. “Mr. Bush said he gave up the game because of the war in Iraq. The president said he didn’t want families of dead soldiers to see him enjoying himself on the links.”
See, that’s coherent. Wearing comfortable clothing instead of a suit, has nothing to do with soldiers. Military people where uniforms, and the dress uniform is quite like a suit. A suit is the uniform of business.
The designer clothing that Zelensky is wearing, probably cost about a thousand bucks and looks comfortable. Zelensky isn’t sacrificing anything.
For a young, short, poorly dressed man to meet with Trump, he needed to play it much different. Be humble and gracious. Kiss ass a lot. Make it obvious that your country really needs the support and you will do what it takes to be worthy. Roll over and show your belly, and maybe Trump would scratch it.
That’s what Sparky does, and everybody like him. Sparky gets everything he wants. Zelensky just has to remember to wear pants.
It’s not clear what Zelensky wants to happen. Trump is in office for four years, and has been clear. If the US remains involved, the US gets a good deal on minerals and peace terms must be negotiated. Whether the US is involved or not, Ukraine is not getting into NATO and not getting it’s borders restored.
European governments are backing Zelensky. Good luck. If Zelensky can’t work a deal with Trump, the US will not be involved. That’s how WW I and WW II started. Trump is right about WW III being a possibility. Putin has no reason to back down, so the fighting in will Ukraine continue. Putin is smarter than Admiral Yamamoto, and won’t do anything to draw the US into the war. The Europeans don’t have the military to fight a war in Ukraine and the GDP of the EU is two-thirds the GDP of the US.
Democrats and Never Trumpers always oppose Trump. Supporting US involvement in Ukraine will be another unpopular opinion. Americans aren’t warmongers.
Ukraine is a corrupt country. Hunter Biden was cashing in on Ukraine when Obama was president. Zelensky has cancelled elections, and may fear what happens to him if the fighting stops. It’s a shame that so many people will die to pursue this futile war.
