NYT: Rubio in Panama

When President Trump first started yakking about Panama, it sounded like a distraction or diversion.  Flood the zone with initiatives to baffle the opposition.  I was wrong.  The Panama Canal was slipping away.

Mr. Mulino also said on Sunday that Panama, which in 2017 became the first country in the region to sign on to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, a far-reaching infrastructure program, would not renew the agreement. He said he hoped the withdrawal would prompt the United States to take a more active role in projects in Panama.

José Mulino is Panama’s president.  China’s Belt and Road Initiative is their global program to get their shit-hooks into struggling countries that are being ignored by the US and other Western countries.

That quote from the NYT article gives all of the pertinent information.  Panama was seduced into bed by Communist China, but got out of bed before getting screwed.  Panama just wants some attention from US.

In recent years, Mr. Mulino said, the United States had left “a lot of empty space” for others to fill. After announcing the pullout from the Chinese program, Mr. Mulino said, “I think this visit opens a path toward building a new era in relations.”

The United States foreign policy hasn’t worked properly for several decades.  It’s refreshing to have leadership that is looking out for America’s interests.

Marco Rubio did his first interview as Secretary of State, with Megyn Kelly.  This is the only Secretary of State that I can recall, who seemed smart, wise and working for us.  The entire interview is illuminating and inspires confidence.  Other Secretaries of State seemed like they were bullshitting everybody.  John Kerry and Hillary Clinton seemed like being Secretary of State was an honorary title, requiring important people to suck up to them.

Here’s the part on Panama.
