Mysterious drones over New Jersey

More than three weeks after dozens of mysterious drones began popping up in the New Jersey night sky, the public has still been offered no clear insight on what the phenomenon could be.

This is a huge story that reveals that corporate media and the federal government have failed.  Finding the whole story is difficult, so I’ll pull from a few reports.

The people asking questions are elected officials, not randos on Reddit.  They aren’t getting answers.

New Jersey Rep. Jeff Van Drew:

“I’m on the Transportation Committee, on the Aviation Subcommittee, and I’ve gotten to know people. And from very high sources, very qualified sources, very responsible sources. I’m going to tell you… Iran launched a mothership probably about a month ago that contains these drones. That mothership is off the east coast of the United States of America.”

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy:

Murphy has described the drones spotted in New Jersey as “very sophisticated” in nature, telling reporters that “the minute you get eyes on them, they go dark.” The governor on Monday acknowledged concern over sensitive targets and critical infrastructure. One of President-elect Trump’s homes, as well as military and utility assets, are in the state.

The claims aren’t plausible, but the politicians are passing along what they’ve heard.  A “mothership” sounds like an alien invasion, it’s difficult to ascertain how large a drone is when it’s flying and “going dark” when spotted seems unlikely.

The answers from DHS and the president’s spokesman are dismissive.   Answers like, “these aren’t a threat”, “not from foreign governments” and they probably aren’t drones.

Drones have been reported to have flown over military bases, critical infrastructure and followed Coast Guard ships.

Last year, a Chinese surveillance balloon flew over the US.

The FAA restricts the areas where drones may be flown, and has restrictions on large and medium sized drones.  The FAA should be able to track these drones.  No indication has been made that the FAA is interested.

The military, law enforcement or other DHS organizations should have the ability to down a drone.  They’ve shown little interest in doing so.

These drones may not be deployed for sinister purposes.  Doesn’t matter.  Foreign governments note how we respond to possible threats.

There may be no evidence that an Iranian ship launched these drones.  There is no reason to think that couldn’t happen next time.  The military, local law enforcement and the FBI should be prepared to act decisively when a plausible threat presents itself.

The corporate media is passing along the weak justifications from government without probing or asking follow up questions.  What can the FAA track?  What equipment exists to drop a drone?  Is that equipment widely deployed?

When corporate media shows no interest in an unusual scenario like this, people turn to fringe news sources like Zero Hedge or Epoch News, or go to speculation sites that generate more outlandish explanations.
