With the phone trauma, camping at Mosquito Lake and social engagements, today is my first day off in a few weeks.
In the retirement context, a day off is a day where nothing is scheduled or urgent.
Admittedly, this a superficial complaint. I am grateful that I’ve got shit to do, but would like to get ahead a little bit.
I am thankful that North Royalton High School had a guy like Mike who plans a back-to-school event for retirees. On the day that the school year starts for our former colleagues, the retirees meet at a bar.
The idea is to text goofy photos to our friends who are sitting in boring “Welcome Back!” meetings.
It’s a good mix. A retired assistant superintendent is having a laugh with a retired teacher aide. New retirees usually attend because they are still adjusting to their new status. The oldest I talked to, retired 23 years ago. The malcontents or teachers who didn’t get along with others, don’t attend these things.
That was Monday. I’m also working on a few projects, splitting logs, got stung twice by yellow jackasses, and still setting up my new phone.
