Sparky

Sparky and I get out in the snow.

Sparky is a fierce snow dog.

He looks like a gremlin that someone fed after midnight.

At holiday parties, I’ve been asked if my next dog will be a beagle.

I don’t understand.  I just bought my third Toyota Tacoma because I got it right the first time.  Sparky is my first dog, and even though he is an individual with sound judgement and exceptional charisma, I can’t help thinking beagles, as a breed, have some attractive attributes.

As I said, I’m going to get a dog who smiles.  Sparky has a sporty smile, but his face is generally expressive.  All breeds don’t seem to be able to do that.

There is a lot to be said for floppy ears.

Floppy ears are always funny.

Other styles of dog ears can be fun and expressive, but I’m sticking with floppy.

Sparky wasn’t just dashing around like a moron.  He had work to do.  There were tracks to be followed that didn’t come from us.

We found fresh tracks from deer and coyote.

Sparky also had smaller game to find.  When he buries his face, he might be looking for mice or chipmunks or snow moles, or hell, I don’t know.  Sparky won’t talk about it.

Once Sparky was done screwing around, I had snow to plow.  My new trapper hat and my pumpkin suit kept me warm.
