When Sparky decided to hike up the icy hill, my new crampons allowed me to follow. To show the treacherous conditions, I videoed Sparky. As expected, he had trouble with the ice, but what happened on the hill surprised both of us.
So nobody is shocked or offended, I’m going to explain the video.
Sparky was breaking traction on the hill even though his nails haven’t been cut in a couple of weeks. At this point, I thought Sparky was bracing himself in case he started to slide.
No, that wasn’t it. Sliding around on the hill was exciting for Sparky, and that triggered an adrenaline poop. It’s normal. Sparky and I respect each others privacy, so under normal circumstances, I would have averted my gaze. I didn’t know what he was doing.
When something slid down the hill in front of him, I thought it was a mouse or stone. I wasn’t very close to him. The video is at 4x zoom and half speed. It wasn’t until he walked away, that I had any idea what he’d done. Even then, I had to go over to verify.
I’m pretty sure when that first turd slid by, Sparky’s prey instinct was trying to kick in.
To explain why I didn’t know what was going on, here’s what the scene looked like on my phone. I was shooting the video by flashlight.
