US News: Biden to serve one term.
Top Democrats are trying to figure out what went wrong in the 2024 presidential election. It’s like watching a junkie explain that their problem is anything but the drugs.
“If Biden is elected, he’s going to be 82 years old in four years and he won’t be running for reelection,” a prominent adviser to the campaign told Politico.
“He’s going into this thinking, ‘I want to find a running mate I can turn things over to after four years but if that’s not possible or doesn’t happen then I’ll run for re-election.’ But he’s not going to publicly make a one term pledge,” another adviser told Politico.
In 2019, Biden implied, but would not commit, to serving only one term. There is nothing screwy about that. Committing to only one term would have undercut his authority, so he just hinted at limiting himself to one term.
After the 2022 congressional election, Biden could have announced that he was not seeking a second term, nor would he endorse any primary candidates. He would have been wise and magnanimous step aside and let the next generation run the show.
Biden could have referenced George Bush, Sr., who should have done the same thing. Eight years as VP and eight years as president is just too much.
The Democratic primary would have been a shit show as it always is, but they would not have gotten a candidate that nobody liked or voted for, and Nancy Pelosi would not have had to engage in shady palace intrigue to force Biden from running.
A presidential candidate needs a VP who will make him look good. The math went like this. Obama needed a VP who was less than him. Biden needed a VP who was less than him. Harris needed a VP who was less than her, and we end up with that dopey walrus guy.
