Fox Business: GS increasing dues
The Girl Scouts are none of my business, but a few friends have complained about it, and I’ve seen a few articles, so rather than go outside on a beautiful day, I’m reading up.
The GS website confirms that they have gone WOKE.
Our commitment to anti-racism:
Girl Scouts of the USA is an anti-racist organization.
People are sick of that shit, and it’s served up everywhere. In the modern context, “anti-racist” means that race permeates everything they do. Based upon his body of work, Martin Luther King, Jr. was an anti-anti-racist. Based on standard English, Strom Thurmond would also be an anti-anti-racist, because the double negatives cancel out, meaning he’s just a garden-variety racist. It’s stupid.
The GS isn’t helping themselves by embracing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Racial Justice as their website describes it.
The GS organization has been infiltrated and leans on the Girl Scout Law to justify their cultural Marxism. The Girl Scout Law is reasonable enough.
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Nothing wrong with that. They don’t portray themselves as victims and don’t hate boys.
GS membership has been declining for two decades, and took a big hit from Covid.
Increasing the dues from $25 to $85 will certainly reduce the membership, but isn’t likely to substantially improve the financial situation for the organization.
The author of that article analyzed decades of financial reports from GSUSA. Membership dues account for about 30% of their revenue. Looking at a financial report from GSUSA, I was surprised to see that they invest in hedge funds and private equity funds.
Raising the dues by 240% is likely to squeeze poor girls out of the program. For the organization, that may not be a bad thing.
The Scouts and the Girl Scouts frequently get children from single-parent households. A single parent is busy and looks for organizations to help share the burden of exposing the child to different experiences and instilling productive values. A single parent often isn’t able to volunteer time to take on chaperone or leadership duties within the troop. This is anecdotal, but plausible.
If the GS is attempting to shift membership to a higher socio-economic level, this could work.
In two decades, GS membership has dropped by 65%. Getting rid of poor girls isn’t going to be enough to revitalize the membership. The Girl Scouts isn’t relevant. Making social justice a defining characteristic is killing it.
Take a look at the badges and awards that a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. A cadette is generally a middle school girl, between 11 and 14 years old. GS Cadette Badges, Awards and Pins
There are 16 STEM badges. STEM is generally of more interest to boys, but some of these are very tedious, like “Cybersecurity Safeguards” and “Digital Leadership”. “Animal Helpers” is in that category for some reason.
Of the other badges and awards, several look engaging, but they lean into selling cookies, and being an activist.
I have enough involvement in summer camps to know that titles are an exercise in marketing. All of the badges and awards are less worthwhile than they sound.
I don’t know what middle school girls want or need from the Girl Scouts, but like I said, it’s not my business. Just asking middle school girls isn’t likely to help. Conservatives have children, and they aren’t likely to be impressed by the “Global Action Award” or the “World Thinking Day Award”.
