Fairview Park neighbors outraged by city council president’s comments after death of Charlie Kirk.

Ohio suburbs are boring.  We don’t expect a city council president to be a far Left extremist.

My niece, nephew-in-law, three kids and at least one dog, live in a city partially run by a man who might celebrate their death.

It’s the abnormal behavior.  I don’t know if Michael Kilbane is in a death cult.  There is no way to predict what Michael Kilbane is capable of.

“Do not speak ill of the dead” has been a social norm for 2500 years.  Michael Kilbane was eager to violate that social norm.  There was no reason for Kilbane to denigrate Charlie Kirk on Facebook within hours of the assassination, but he was pleased to post on Facebook.

Are there other social norms that Kilbane is eager to violate?

Charlie Kirk was a congenial, respectful and effective advocate for conservative values.  A third of Fairview Park citizens voted for President Trump.  Kilbane may not wish death to his conservative citizens, but there is no reason to think that he will give them a fair hearing or consider their views.

A few years ago, on Facebook, Kilbane posted:

Enough of this cowardly, Trumpian, double-speak! Say what you mean, already: ‘Blue Lives Matter’ is code for ‘law enforcement should be able to kill Black people with impunity,’ right?

Kilbane may not wish for the death of Trump voters, but he would not mourn them.  Kilbane was eager to post a racially divisive blood libel against Trump voters and police officers.

It seems that Kilbane would be eager for BLM, Antifa or other Leftist thugs to occupy or destroy part of Fairview Park.  Luckily, this suburb is too small to get their attention.  Kilbane can keep hoping.

Here is Kilbane’s response to the recent backlash.

“I said how I honestly felt about something, in my opinion, I meant nobody any harm,” said Kilbane.

Since his comment, Kilbane said he has been receiving threats.

“I’ve been getting a lot of out-of-town hate mail, death threats and bomb threats. It’s awful what happened to him, I am sorry that happened to him, and political violence has no part in American democracy,” said Kilbane.

That is the abnormal behavior.  Kilbane’s judgment is deplorable.  Charlie Kirk received thousands of death threats.  He had a security team and was wearing a bullet-proof vest.  The difference is that Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck with a .30-06 rifle bullet.  President Trump was shot in the head by an assassin.  A Leftist shooter went to a practice session for the Republican Congressional baseball team, and shot five people.

Michael Kilbane is endorsing and encouraging political violence, with the understanding that his crazy people will be doing the killing.

The mayor of Fairview Park is a spineless asshole.  His response is a five-paragraph essay of cowardice and impotence.  There is too much to criticize, so I will be selective.

concerned with social media comments made by a Councilmember regarding the passing of Charlie Kirk.

Which councilmember?  Don’t know.

The remarks are the Councilmember’s words alone.

Good Lord, you think that matters?  The Council President hates a third of his citizens.

Even in a country that may be divided, empathy and care for one another must endure.  Respect and responsibility remain essential.

Why?  President Lincoln famously said, “A house divided against itself, cannot stand.”  If we are divided, then we may as well sort this out now.  Empathy, care, respect and responsibility are relevant only in so far as it is reciprocated.   Kilbane hates the President of the United States, and anyone who voted for him.  That includes a third of his citizens.

The mayor wants everyone to leave him alone so the council can continue work on their Progressive dream.  If he meant anything in his response letter, he would spend political capital to force the council president to resign.  The Democratic majority in Fairview Park aren’t permitted to oppress their Republican neighbors.
